Bruins Defeat Alumni Using New Scoring Format

Vince, Pena lead UCLA in kills.

The UCLA's men's volleyball team defeated its Alumni, 142-140, Friday night at the John Wooden Center.

The match featured an experimental scoring format of four, 35-point quarters to 140 points with a mandatory two-point margin of victory.

Junior college transfer Allan Vince led the Bruins with 18 kills (.344), followed by junior Chris Pena, who added 10 kills. Sophomores Paul Johnson, Jonathan Acosta and Matt Shubin each led the Bruins with three total blocks.

The Bruins hit .301 and held the Alumni to a percentage of .234. The Alumni outblocked the Bruins, 14.5-10.5.

Next match for the Bruins will be Fri., Nov. 8 against the Canadian National Team at 7:30 p.m. in the John Wooden Center.
